Dear Friends,
We lend to think of our Heathkit builders strictly as adults, but that's not always true. There are some very enthusiastic youngsters in Mooreland, Oklahoma, who are avid Heathkit fans.
Two years ago, under the guidance of an equally enthusiastic teacher named Buddy Cooper, the sixth-grade class at Mooreland Elementary School built our Hero Jr. robot - from scratch. The project went so well that a few months ago this years sixth graders set out to build our Laser Trainer System (shown on page 33). They, too, succeeded with (lying colors.
According to Mr. Cooper, the manuals for both the projects were easily understood by his young students. And he has nothing but praise for our technical consultation team. When a question arose during the assembly of the Laser Trainer, he phoned our consultants. Within minutes the class had a clear explanation ol what they needed to do.
The current Mooreland sixth graders are now some of our most enthusiastic kit builders. They travel to other elementary schools with their finished kits and demonstrate for their peers what they’ve built and how they continue to learn from their projects.
Here's a group of youngsters, challenged beyond the expectations of their years, who will enter the 21st century comfortable with the newest technology. Congratulations, Buddy Cooperand Mooreland sixth graders! I wish you luck with future projects.
Best regards,.
